Belonging by Ron Butlin

Quite a dark, modern piece of fiction.

In Belonging Ron Butlin explores a range of issues including increasing global terrorism and how we live normally alongside it.

The hero of the book is Jack McCall – a Scottish drifter. He’s living with his partner Anna as caretaker of some very nice ski apartments in the French Alps. A very nice, hidden from the world existence.

Then one of the owners appears with his lover and manages to die in an unfortunate accident, Jack and Anna end up looking after the girl (Therese) until the snows abates enough for her to leave and the ambulance to arrive.

To say more than that will give away some of the plot – but after that it gets much darker, and more escapist too.

A good read – pretty gripping and very enjoyable.
